Zoë Gustaves

Biographical information

Making her debut appearance in The Identity Factor, by James Houston Turner, Zoë Gustaves is a behavioral analyst and profiler with the CIA. She was born 26 December, 1981. After graduating from Columbia University, where she was a sprinter and a straight-A student who spoke four languages, she was hired by CIA Deputy Director of Operations, Jackson Teague, who was impressed by her stubborn determination, lateral assessment skills, quick mind, marksmanship, and linguistic ability. She is credited with having compiled the only profile on Turner's notorious fictional "for hire" terrorist, Abu Nazer.

Physical appearance and personality

Lean and athletic, Gustaves has spiked raven hair, blue eyes, and half a dozen earrings. She also has three tattoos, one of which - chikara, the Japanese character for "power" - is on the back of one shoulder. Zoë takes pride in being anachronistic to her boss, DDO Teague, and the beltway establishment, and has been described as "everybody's nightmare field agent," and "a rebel, who has conflicts with her mother, issues with authority, and puts her (and others') life in danger more than once." Her argumentative nature once caused her to be suspended from work for a week. Her reaction was to take out her frustration at the shooting range, then impulsively follow journalist Rutherford Tyler to Cairo in search of Abu Nazer. A careless moment in John F. Kennedy airport allowed a thief to steal her carry-on bag of sensitive documents. She ran the thief down, tackled him, and held him at gun point until airport security arrived. Her reckless behavior nearly caused disciplinary action to be taken against her.

Zoë enjoys beer and the country music of fictional master musician, the legendary Stony Lonesome. Although a career woman who works long hours to prove herself, she enjoys cooking and at times has been known to bribe technician Tony Cooke into helping her by making him ice cream tundra cakes. Has a propensity for saying "in your dreams".

Family

Zoë's mother is conservative Congresswoman Diane Gustaves, who pressured Teague into hiring Zoë and whose overbearing personality Zoë resents. Both women have assertive, at times aggressive personalities.
